Not quite as catchy as the Bryan Adams song with the same title, huh?
I'd just graduated from college and should have started the career... but instead decided to push it off four more months so I could have one more summer of fun. Four more months of little to no responsibility bringing in little to no money, but doing the job that made me happy. The pool lifeguard. Why start the career now? There will always be time for that. That was my motto.
That summer I lived in a house being renovated. The owners made a habit of buying homes, fixing them up, living in them for a few years and starting all over again. At least they had done it with 2 homes in the short time that I knew them. I had only a bedroom. The rest of this rather large house was under construction. No kitchen, no air conditioning, no working shower and no need for an alarm clock because the contractors started banging on things pretty early in the morning. Well, early for a college student anyway. They, in fact, were super nice and we had many conversations about how they held off on the loud stuff until they were sure I was awake. The conditions were not ideal, but I saved a lot of money that summer. They just wanted someone watching over the place during all the work.
At the pool, I made the most of it... I knew this was the last year. I met some really good friends and then as usual lost touch with them as we all moved on with our lives. Turns out, Facebook brought some of us back together, which brings me to the point of today's post. We spent today with Michael, one of the guards from that summer. We reminisced about the days at the pool, the people from Baltimore that we knew, got caught up on the 16 plus years that have passed since then and even threw in some skiing and a game of Greedy. It was so fun to meet his little boy, Michael.... aptly named as he is quite the mini-version of his dad. We had a great time with the Michaels and hope to not lose touch this time. I now bring you some photos

So, the moral of the story is "Facebook works". Give it a try.
