The American Flag

Sanjay meticulously watched and copied Priya's drawing of the American Flag. He looked over her shoulder, asked her questions like "what color goes first, red or white?" and even pointed out areas where he'd made a mistake "but that's ok", he admitted to her. It was fun to watch him put so much detail into a drawing. Usually, they are quick and simple. After a while, when Priya started adding the final touches, he decided to go his own way. So, in the details, their pictures differ. Let's compare:

They both:
  • have blue clouds and a bright yellow sun
  • start the flag with a white stripe
  • are flying over lovely green grass
  • show a ladybug enjoying the grass
Priya's details:
  • A school with double doors sits behind the flag
  • An oversized red flower grows in the grass
Sanjay's details:
  • A yellow snowman was built under the flag (on this sunny day, in the green grass)
  • Some green and pink decorations were added to the flag. He said something about it being an Indian flag, too. From what I could gather, he was trying to make a flag that represents both India and the U.S.
  • A green tornado has formed on the left side.

So fun to see this stuff! What good record keeping by your kids' mama. They will have a blast later in life looking back at their artwork from younger years. Sanjay's green tornado is a nice twist ;-)

I love this. What a great idea to keep! Funny how those boys can't keep from adding those little extras... the tornedo. ;)
