This couldn't be more true in the case of our marriage. I asked Bartee to take the same Myers-Briggs personality test that I took a while back. With Myers-Briggs, all of us fall into one of 16 types... a combination of 4 letters, each letter an indication of one aspect of our personality. The first letter is either I or E, introvert or extrovert. The second letter is either N or S, intuitive or sensing. The third letter is either T or F, thinking or feeling. And, finally the fourth letter is either P or J, perceiving or judging. I happen to be an ESFJ and Bartee, you guessed it, an INTP... not a single letter in common; in fact, polar opposites. So, we compliment each other well and the lack of commonality gives us plenty to fight about.
He's "The Thinker" and I'm "The Caregiver" which I think pretty much fits the way we are living our lives today.
The Thinker
You are analytical and logical - and on a quest to learn everything you can. Smart and complex, you always love a new intellectual challenge. Your biggest pet peeve is people who slow you down with trivial chit chat. A quiet maverick, you tend to ignore rules and authority whenever you feel like it.
In love, you are an easy person to fall for. But not an easy person to stay in love with. Although you are quite flexible, you often come off as aloof or argumentative.
At work, you are both a logical and creative thinker. You are great at solving problems. You would make an excellent mathematician, programmer, or professor.
How you see yourself: Creative, fair, and tough-minded
When other people don't get you, they see you as: arrogant, cold, and robotic
The Caregiver
You are sympathetic and caring, putting friends and family first. A creature of habit, you prefer routines and have trouble with change. You love being in groups - whether you're helping people or working on a project. You are good at listening, laughing, and bringing out the best in people.
In love, you value harmony and mutual understanding. You will apologize or give someone the benefit of the doubt, if it means getting over a fight sooner.
At work, you are good at building relationships and connecting with people. You would make a great nurse, social worker, or teacher.
How you see yourself: Organized, dependable, co-operative
When other people don't get you, they see you as: Opinionated, critical, and know-it-all
